Cool Off with a Summer Drink at this Outdoor Park in Philadelphia
August 12, 2021August in Philly is known for one thing: the heat! While the end of the summer is in sight, the dog days of the season are still here for a few more weeks. To beat the heat, you can seek solace in one of the many museums, shops and movie theaters near your 1213 Walnut apartment. But if you do want to soak up the sun without breaking too much of a sweat, you can also check out everyone’s favorite summer activity: dining and drinking under the stars!
There are plenty of opportunities to do that right near home, including a new space at the historic Betsy Ross House. Through the fall, the first Friday of every month will feature an outdoor movie in the courtyard of one of the city’s oldest and most-visited historic attractions. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and favorite adult beverage—so you can sip wine and snack on your favorite bites while cooling off in the shade of the courtyard and taking in a flick.
The lineup for the rest of the series includes:
- Aug. 6: Alligator People
- Sept. 3: Evil Brain from Outer Space
- Oct. 1: Plan 9 from Outer Space
Movies are projected right onto the side of the home, where seamstress Betsy Ross, the maker of the first American flag, lived in the late 1700s. The films start at sundown but get there early, as your $7 admission also includes a tour of the Betsy Ross House. With a trip to this limited event, you get to enjoy history, arts and food!
So, if you’re looking to hang onto summer a few weeks longer, head out to the Betsy Ross House to enjoy the flavors of the season.
