Where to Celebrate Spring in Philly
March 25, 2021After a long and cold winter, spring is just about upon us! This season more than ever, we all could use some flowers, greenery and sunshine. While it may take a few weeks for spring to have truly sprung, now is the perfect time to break your sneakers back in and take in the spring sights, sounds and smells in Philly.
There are plenty of green spaces to do just that around your 1213 Walnut apartment, including Independence National Historical Park. While the area is known best for the role it played in Philadelphia and national history, it’s also a great spot to take in some spring flowers, all with the stunning backdrops of some of the city’s most beautiful buildings.
The centerpiece of the park is Independence Mall, an expansive stretch of green space that lays before Independence Hall. The area is popular with picnickers, sunbathers and those craving some sunshine and relaxation on a warm spring day. The winding paths that run along the outside of the park also make it a haven for runners and walkers. Benches ring the entire park, the outside of which is blooming with a variety of small trees, plants and flowers, so you can bring along a favorite book and lounge on one of the benches next time you’re in need of some me time with a view.
The park doesn’t just encompass Independence Hall and the Liberty Ball but actually stretches several blocks into Old City. If you’re pounding the pavement, head behind Independence Hall for the leafy walkways and further into the neighborhood for historical sites like Carpenters’ Hall and the Second Bank of the U.S., both of which are surrounded by plenty of nature—and history that you can learn about as you enjoy the fresh air and exercise.
We’ve all been cooped up this winter, so now is the time to welcome back warmer weather and all the possibilities of spring, all safely and without traveling too far from your 1213 Walnut apartment.
