How to Have a Memorable St. Paddy’s Day
March 12, 2021St. Patrick’s Day is usually an opportunity to spend a weekend bar hopping, getting in touch with old friends and new over beers and some great Irish food. Because of the current health crisis, however, many of those traditions have to look a little different this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get in the spirit of the holiday, all right near your 1213 Walnut apartment.
Center City is home to tons of authentic Irish pubs, many of which are open this St. Patty’s Day for limited indoor dining and drinking, outdoor socializing and takeout. No matter your comfort level, you can find a way to embrace your Irish roots (or those you wish you had!) with some quality cuisine and brews. For instance, Fado, four blocks from your 1213 Walnut apartment is welcoming visitors indoors as well as on its new outdoor “parklet,” an expansion of its patio that’s covered and heated. It also partners with Postmates and UberEats, so you can have your St. Patty’s celebration right from the comfort of your 1213 Walnut apartment if you’d prefer!
No matter where you dine and drink, Fado offers the opportunity to enjoy Irish cuisine and culture. Irish influences are seen throughout the menu, such as the Guinness mayo that’s served with items like the pub sliders and the hand-battered wedge “chips.” On the entrée side, fish and chips and shepherds pie will have you feel like you’re dining right in Dublin, while the dessert menu includes options like Fado Irish coffee, featuring Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey. You can also warm up with other Irish whiskey-driven drinks like a Hot Toddy or the Hot Spiced Cider. The cocktail menu includes offerings like Irish Sazerac and the Irish Whiskey Sour, or you can opt for the traditional Guinness on draft or of the many international brews Fado offers, many of which are available to go.
So this St. Patty’s Day, even if you’re hunkered down, you can embrace the luck of the Irish with an authentic Philly favorite like Fado.
