Get Ready for Barcade 2.0 in Center City
February 20, 2020Our neighborhood recently scored big with the arrival of a second outpost of the city’s most popular gaming bar! Barcade announced it’s planning a second Philly location—joining seven other nationwide—on Chestnut Street in Center City, just one block from your 1213 Walnut apartment.
The spot won’t be opening its doors until the fall, but that’s no reason not to start getting excited now! If you haven’t been to Philly’s first Barcade, in Fishtown, now’s a good time to make the trip so you can see what our neighborhood is in for.
Barcade opened nearly 10 years ago, based around a simple concept: Going out for drinks doesn’t have to mean just sitting at a cramped bar or crowded around a table, unable to hear your fellow drinkers. Instead, why not get up and active while sipping and socializing? To help patrons do so, Barcade brought in dozens of vintage arcade games that add an element of friendly competition to their night out. The more than 50 games include classic video and pinball games you’ll remember from your youth (or maybe some you’ve never heard of!), and many of them will make an appearance at the new Center City location.
The new neighborhood spot will also have a full bar that mirrors the diverse offerings of the Fishtown locale, which has more than two dozen beers on tap. The local venue will have a more expanded food selection, building on the popular shareable apps, tacos and sandwiches of the original location. It will also feature a private room, so if you have a gamer in your life and want to celebrate his or her birthday in a truly unique way, you can do it here—all without traveling far from your 1213 Walnut apartment.
