A neighborhood is nothing without the people who bring it to life, and ours is no different.
Both the Gayborhood and Midtown Village are vibrant and diverse neighborhoods filled with unique shops and restaurants that would excite any visitor. It’s the people, though, that keep the area humming with energy, and man-about-town Tim Adams is one of them.
Through his work at Table 95 Hospitality, Tim works with both Philadelphia City Tap House locations (Logan Square and University City), Field House and our close neighbor Pennsylvania 6 to plan and promote parties and events all over the city. One day, he might throw a birthday party for 25 to 100 people, and the next, he’ll host a crowd of 4,000 at a tourism event.

One of Tim’s events hits Filbert Street between Field House and Reading Terminal Market.
Needless to say, Tim always knows where to send people to have a great time, whether they’re locals or first-time Philly visitors. We caught up with Tim and followed him around the neighborhood for a day of friends, food and drinks.
Tim and friends enjoy brunch at Penn 6.
“I love to start my day off with brunch at Penn 6,” Tim says. “Everything on the menu from the shrimp with white cheddar grits to fluffy crab omelets is delicious. Plus, their bloody marys are not to be missed.”
After brunch, Tim likes to stroll through the neighborhood and peruse local shops like our friends over at Duross and Langel or swim some laps in the 12th Street Gym at the Loews Hotel.
“If I feel like a snack in the late afternoon, a trip to Sampan is always a safe bet,” Tim continues. “The tuna rice crackers and edamame dumplings are at the top of my list.” Plus, he says, Sampan is one of the few places in the area to offer happy hours on the weekend. That’s something we can all get behind.
Tim and Gabby at McGillin’s.
“Whenever I’m in the area, I like to stop by McGillin’s Old Ale House to say hello to Gabby, the bar’s manager and my Midtown Village bestie,” says Tim. McGillin’s, which has been declared one of the top places for potential couples to meet in Philly, is home to an assortment of drink specials that are just too good to pass up, like $2.99 margaritas on Thursdays. No wonder it’s such a beloved neighborhood spot.
The patio at Little Nonna’s is as dreamy as it gets.
After McGillin’s, Tim is off to Little Nonna’s—a darling Italian-American eatery with an outdoor garden area perfect for a little wine, antipasti and dessert alfresco. “Little Nonna’s with a group four on the back patio is a great place to spend some time with red wine and the gossip of the season,” he adds with a smile.

“After dinner, I often pop back in to Penn 6 for a bubbly cocktail or some other libations to get ready for a fun night out at the gay bars,” Tim says.
“The sense of community in the space—and in the neighborhood—is obvious,” he adds. “Since Penn 6 is so close to Thomas Jefferson University, the school sometimes hosts events like their ‘Match Day’ happy hour, where medical students are matched with hospitals and residencies. It’s really cool to see different groups of people enjoying the space in different ways.”

“Tavern on Camac is our favorite gay bar, whether we are singing along with the piano or upstairs dancing the night away,” Tim says. “Woody’s has a special place in my heart, too. If you and your crowd are controlling the dance floor, heaven really can be a place on Earth.”
If one person can have this much fun in a single day, imagine how much ground you could cover if you lived with us in the heart of the neighborhood. Sound ideal? Be sure to book a tour of 1213 Walnut and learn about everything the building has to offer.
If you happen to see Tim out and about once you’re a resident, make sure to say hello.
