How to Check Out Dine Latinx in Philly
October 7, 2021Philly’s culinary scene offers tastes from around the world, and some of its most popular eateries are those with a Latin American flair. Lucky for diners who love a little spice, they can check out some of these standout spaces this month, all for less!
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is hosting Dino Latino Restaurant Week from Oct. 11-15, spotlighting some of the city’s best Puerto Rican, Mexican, Argentinian and other Latinx-owned restaurants. While the series is a major win for locals—who can enjoy a free appetizer or dessert with the purchase of two entrees at one of the participating restaurants—it’s also a great way to give back to independently owned restaurants that have been hard hit by COVID and that could use the extra boost from Dine Latino.
Here are just three of the nearly three-dozen restaurants participating in the event:
Mixto: Cuba, Caribbean and Latin American cuisine are all on the menu at Mixto, three blocks from your 1213 Walnut apartment. From paella to churrasco, Mixto’s eclectic menu is served up in large portions and amid traditional Latin décor. With outdoor seating along Pine Street and its famous pitchers of Sangria, margaritas and mojitos, Mixto is a perfect spot to soak in an early fall afternoon.
El Merkury: This new addition to the neighborhood, about 1 miles from your 1213 Walnut apartment, specializes in Central American street food, particularly from Guatemala. With a menu rich in staples like corn, beans, chiles and chocolate, it expertly blends spicy and sweet for an unforgettable meal.
Cube Libre: About 1 mile from your 1213 Walnut apartment, Cuba Libre has been spicing up Old City for more than 20 years. With menus crafted by a multiple James Beard award winner, Cuba Libre offers modern spins on classic Cuban flavors.
