How to Celebrate 4th of July This Year
July 2, 2021As lockdowns lift and the world starts getting back to normal, locals are able to start celebrating again! After a Fourth of July in 2020 that was mostly sidelined by the pandemic, one of the biggest summer parties will largely be back on this year, even if it looks a little different. There are loads of ways to get patriotically festive near your 1213 Walnut apartment—from unwinding at Penn’s Landing to taking in the historic parade in Old City and everything in between. And as the birthplace of the nation, Philly is a great place to celebrate Fourth of July—especially if you’re looking for top-notch (and free!) entertainment.
Wawa Welcome America brings dozens of events to the city in the days leading up to Fourth of July, many of which feature the city’s top talent. Kick off the holiday July 2 at a block party outside the Barnes Foundation, one mile from your 1213 Walnut apartment. The Our America Now party features live performances, sculpture making, glass blowing, clips from the Black Star Film Festival and a performance by Poet Laureate Trapeta B. Mayson. It’s a great spot to start your partying all while enjoying exciting and educational entertainment.
The next day, head to the African American Museum of Philadelphia, about one mile from your 1213 Walnut apartment, to take in historic reenactments and hands-on workshops. Later that night, the Mann Center will welcome the Philly POPS for its annual pre-holiday show. The POPS will make another appearance, along with a number of other entertainers at the Celebration of freedom Ceremony July 4 at Independence Hall.
After a year of cancelled events, make sure to get out and about this Fourth of July holiday to take in all the excitement that Philly offers!
